As a Builder Team Lead, you’ll run daily job-site activity, lead a small crew through residential and light commercial projects, and own the quality, safety, and schedule of the work. You’ll swing a hammer and plan the day, mentor your team, coordinate subs and inspectors, and make sure every job meets code and comes out right.

Position Summary

The Home Improvement / Builder Team Lead is a hands-on working leader responsible for supervising daily job-site activities, ensuring high-quality workmanship, and leading a small crew through residential and light commercial construction projects. This role combines skilled trade work with leadership, coordination, and accountability for safety, schedules, and client satisfaction. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and work alongside a crew performing carpentry, remodeling, and general construction tasks 

  • Plan daily work activities and assign tasks to crew members 

  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards, building codes, and safety requirements 

  • Read and interpret drawings, scopes of work, and project specifications 

  • Perform and oversee light residential electrical and plumbing work within permitted scope, including fixture installation and basic troubleshooting 

  • Coordinate licensed electricians and plumbers when required, ensuring proper sequencing and readiness of work 

  • Verify that electrical and plumbing work integrates correctly with framing, finishes, and other trades 

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and project management 

  • Track progress, identify issues early, and communicate status updates clearly 

  • Maintain job-site cleanliness, organization, and safety compliance 

  • Mentor and train team members, promoting skill development and teamwork 

  • Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and materials 

  • Represent the company professionally with clients and partners 

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in residential construction, remodeling, or home improvement 

  • Strong carpentry and general building skills (framing, finish work, drywall, basic mechanical coordination) 

  • Working knowledge of residential electrical and plumbing systems, including common layouts, materials, and code considerations 

  • Ability to safely perform non-licensed electrical and plumbing tasks such as fixture replacement and device installation where permitted 

  • Prior experience leading or supervising a construction crew 

  • Solid understanding of building codes, safety practices, and job-site workflow 

  • Ability to read plans and accurately execute scopes of work 

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills 

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in varied job-site conditions 

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification 

  • Experience working alongside licensed electricians and plumbers 

  • Familiarity with green building practices, energy-efficient construction, or smart-home integration 

  • CASp certification or formal ADA compliance training preferred but not required 

  • NJ Home Improvement Contractor experience or familiarity with NJ regulations 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
